Making our neighbourhood safe starts at home

The job of crime prevention and public safety does not live with the police and emergency responders alone – there are many things that residents can do to collectively reduce crime and improve the safety of our neighbourhood.

Block Watch

Block Watch is a program to help neighbours watch out for neighbours. Your neighbours know who you are, what type of car you drive, and may be the first to notice a suspicious person at your door or window. When neighbours work together, they can combat crime in their area in the most effective way — before it starts. Block Watch encourages active participation in crime prevention.

Contact the Cloverdale Block Watch Coordinator at: 604-502-6265 for information about how to get started. It's surprisingly easy!

Clean up Litter

Discarded bottles, clothing, apple cores, empty chip bags, old newspapers and other garbage on the ground make it look as though no one cares about our Neighbourhood and that lack of care can lead to increased vandalism and crime.

Here’s what we can all do:

  • Set an example ourselves

  • Speak up when we see others litter

  • When out walking or in the park, bring a bag along for trash – the trash we make along the way, as well as the trash we find.

Observe and Report

While not all reports require police attendance, every incident reported is analyzed and assessed to identify crime trends and public safety issues. When you file a report, you are helping police understand and address what is happening in our community. This information allows them to make informed decisions on resource deployment and crime reduction initiatives.

Disaster Preparedness

Make sure your home, family or business is prepareed when disaster strikes. The City of Surrey Web Site has plenty of information and helpful tips. http://www.surrey.ca/cityservices/12712.aspx

When disaster strikes, remember we all need to work together. Sharing skills and plans with neighbours will make us all stronger.
